Privacy

TeamUpNL helps you find players to play football with. To do that, we keep as little as possible.

Last updated: 19 October 2026

What we keep

  • Your name, e-mail address and password (encrypted only) so you can log in. If you log in with Google or Apple, we only get your name and e-mail address from them.
  • We only send you e-mails your account needs: confirming your e-mail address and choosing a new password.
  • Your profile: username, gender, position, level, the colour of your avatar and the app's language. Other players see your name, username, position, level and photo, never your e-mail address or gender. Only our admin team sees your e-mail address and gender, to handle reports and to be able to e-mail you. You can't change your gender yourself once chosen, because TeamUps for women or men only depend on it.
  • That you are 16 or older and agreed to the terms of use, and when.
  • Who you follow and who follows you.
  • After a TeamUp: your stars for the game (only for us, to see how TeamUps go) and the honours you give ("Played well", "Great teammate"). Other players see on your profile how often you were honoured, not by whom. We remember who was in a TeamUp, also after heading home, so you can review your teammates afterwards.
  • The times when you can't play. Only you see them; we use them to not send you notifications then.
  • Your profile photo, if you add one. Only logged-in players see it, and not the players you block. The app makes the photo smaller and removes data such as the location before it is sent; our server then makes its own copy, without such data.
  • Your favourite pitches, the TeamUps you start or join, and your messages in the lobby chat.
  • A push code per phone, so we can send you a notification, and which notifications you want (Profile → Notifications): new TeamUps at your favourite pitches and from players you follow, chat messages, who joins, reminders.
  • Reports and blocks you make, to keep the app safe. When a message is reported we keep a copy of it for the review. A report is also e-mailed to our moderation team. Only that team sees who reported (with the e-mail address, so we can reply); the reported player never does.
  • Feedback you send (Profile → Feedback), with the app version and the type of phone, so we can find bugs. We e-mail it to our team and may reply to your e-mail address.
  • Your IP address and the type of app or browser with your login session (30 days at most), and briefly (an hour to two days) for the limits against abuse, such as too many login attempts or messages. Our hosting (Vercel) and e-mail service (Scaleway) keep technical logs.

What for

  • To make the app work: your account, TeamUps, the chat and notifications about TeamUps (performance of the contract).
  • To keep the app safe: filtering abusive words, reviewing reports and blocking players who break the rules (legitimate interest).
  • If you share a TeamUp (Share in the lobby), anyone with the link sees the pitch, the time and how many players have joined, no names.
  • Without an account you can look around first: the map, the pitches and the TeamUps on them, with the time and number of players, but without names, messages or photos. We keep nothing about you for that.
  • We use no analytics, show no ads, sell nothing and don't track you in other apps.

Your location

  • If you allow it, the app uses your location to open the map near you. For that, your location stays on your phone. If you don't allow it, the map opens in Groningen and everything still works.
  • If you turn on "TeamUps nearby" (Profile), the app sends your location to our server when you open it and, if you allow it on your phone ("Always"), also when the app is closed: at most every 30 minutes, only between 08:00 and 22:00 and not at the times you can't play. Your phone first rounds the location to about a kilometre; your exact location never leaves your phone. We only keep the latest one and only use it to notify you when a TeamUp starts within 2 km. We delete a location older than a week. If you turn it off, the app stops and we delete your location straight away (consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
  • Only the part of the map you are looking at goes to our server, to load the pitches in it, and what you search for on the map. We don't keep that.

Who else is involved

  • Our database is hosted by Supabase in Frankfurt (EU); the server runs at Vercel.
  • Push notifications go through Expo to Apple or Google. Account e-mails go through Scaleway in Paris (EU).
  • The map comes from OpenFreeMap and the map software (MapLibre) from jsDelivr. They see your IP address when your phone loads the map, as with any website; we send them nothing else.
  • Logging in with Google or Apple goes through them; what they keep is in their own privacy policy.
  • All these parties only use your data to provide their service to us and protect it at least as well as we do.
  • Pitch data comes from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL).

How long

  • As long as you have an account. If you delete your account (Profile → Delete account), we immediately erase all your data, TeamUps, messages, reports and feedback. You can also do it without the app: see /account-verwijderen.
  • Two exceptions. Reports about you are kept for 180 days after the deletion, so nobody can escape a report by deleting the account. And if your account was banned, we keep an irreversible code (hash) of your e-mail address, so it cannot be used for a new account; if we unban you, we delete that code.
  • Reports and feedback already e-mailed to our team stay in our mailbox, and Scaleway keeps a log of sent e-mails.
  • You can withdraw permission for location, camera, photos or notifications in your phone's settings.

Your rights

  • You may see your data, have it corrected or erased, and object. E-mail us for that.
  • TeamUpNL is for players aged 16 and over.
  • If you disagree with us, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
